Universal Worthy Bodhisattva takes us back to an inconceivably remote time in the past. Sumeru Supreme Cloud of a Mountain of Merit and Virtue Buddha was in the world Supreme Sound. That Buddha emits light. Prince Great Awesome Light instantaneously certifies to ten Dharma-doors. His praise of the Buddha is heard throughout the world. All the kings of the various realms and cities, together with their retinues, draw near the Buddha. The Prince attained enlightenment. Countless living beings bring forth the Bodhi Resolve. Attaining great benefits under the next Buddha named Good King Adorned with Eyes of Prajna.
That Prince, reborn as a heavenly king, continues to study the Wondrous Dharma.

Annotation
The pure Dharma-Body of the Buddha is Vairochana. The first line of the ‘Meal Offering Chant’ refers to Vairochana Buddha.
This is a chapter from the Buddha’s inconceivable edition on ‘Transcendental History.’
The Prince Great Awesome Light drew near to and studied reverently under all the four Buddhas who appeared in that world. After he became a king, he still studied with the Buddha. Even after passing away and becoming a heavenly king, he continued to follow the Buddha’s Teaching. He is a good example of a filial and loyal disciple of the Buddhas. It is said,
‘To learn what is good, a day is not enough;
But to learn what is bad, an hour is too long.’

To pursue any field of knowledge can easily absorb the rest of one’s life. And life is so brief and fragile. Hence, it is wise to concentrate on what is most important for one’s well-being and peace of mind.
